Sawyer

He gave his sister a less than pitying look as she hugged the toilet. She’d slept through the night but the second she’d woken up, she’d run to the bathroom to throw up.

“It’s not fair,” Addison mumbled.

“What’s not fair?”

“You’ll never have to do the whole baby thing.”

Sawyer gave her a hard stare.

“I won’t?”

Addison sighed and turned around to lean her back against the toilet.

“You know what I mean,” she said, waving a hand around. “You can’t physically have a baby inside you. You’re not the one who’d have to grow it.”

Sawyer couldn’t hold back a bark of laughter.

“It’s not a plant, Addie.”

“A plant doesn’t have to come out of my vagina,” she grumbled.

“No, it doesn’t,” Sawyer said and sat down in front of her. He reached for her hand. “You haven’t told him, have you?”

She gave him a deadpan look.

“No one’s asked if there’s a reason you’re a cougar?”

“Obviously not,” she said.

Sawyer took a deep breath. Young guys didn’t usually want kids. The younger, the least they wanted kids, especially if you were only there for some fun and not a whole-ass relationship.

“I have to tell him, don’t I?” Addison asked with a sigh.

Sawyer nodded. “He deserves that, doesn’t he? Oh, I also kinda told him last night that you don’t want kids. I figured you should be the one to tell him you might not be able to have them, and you just don’t want to jump through all the hoops it’ll take you to get pregnant.”

Addison’s sigh made a smile pull at Sawyer’s lips.

They’d been in an accident when they were young and they’d discovered that Addison had almost zero chances of getting pregnant. He knew she’d liked the idea of having kids then, but she’d never wanted to go through all kinds of shit to get them.

Addison pushed herself off the floor and Sawyer followed. They walked into Tex’s bedroom just as Addison’s phone rang.

She dropped her head back with a long groan that had Sawyer pressing his lips together to keep from laughing again.

Addison picked up her phone and he went to collect her things she’d somehow strewn completely out across the room.

“Shit,” Addison hissed.

Sawyer jerked around, the expression on Addison’s face making his heart stutter.

She lowered the phone and met Sawyer’s gaze.

“Ryan’s out on bail.”
